Why It Matters
Rodent infestations cause significant crop losses, contamination risks, and regulatory challenges across agriculture and food production. Producers need effective control solutions that protect food safety while meeting environmental and certification standards.
Our story
Ecovara began with a problem in the vineyards. Working in the wine industry, Steph McKellar saw firsthand how serious mice infestations were. Especially in organic vineyards, where poisons could not be used.
She brought the challenge to her mother, Angela, who has a background in science and business. Together, they realised that nothing on the market was multi-catch, multi-kill, organic-compliant, and humane. So they set out to design something different.
What started as a mother and daughter tackling a vineyard problem grew into a bigger mission. Ecovara is now building the first humane, CO₂-based rodent control system designed for primary industry with the focus on organics. A trap that protects crops and animals, avoids cruelty, and helps farmers stay true to their values.
